For me the most beautiful view of Vienna is from above. Either from the distance, like from Donauturm, Kahlenberg or Leopoldsberg, or close up from the city center. For the second option one of the best spots is definitely Das Loft. That’s actually the Bar and Restaurant of the Sofitel, a rather new luxury class hotel, and it’s located at the top floor of the Nouvel-Tower (named after its architect Jean Nouvel) right at Donaukanal, opposite Schwedenplatz.
From here you have a stunning 360° view over entire Vienna. The tables belong to the restaurant at the double-glazed edges of the building and it’s perfect for a romantic candle light dinner. It’s just that you occasionally have to reserve far in advance.
The bar is even better, which is in an elevated position in the middle of the floor, and enables you to take a look at all cardinal points from the same seat. For the bar you usually need no reservation, but when it’s getting dark outside it can become crowded and it might be possible that you have to wait for a seat, because hotel guests are preferred.
BTW: In case you have a room booked in the Sofitel, this is also the location where you take your breakfast.
With its luminous ceiling, which appears to be levitating and the restrained interior Das Loft offers a sophisticated atmosphere. Usually I choose to come here when I have guests, who are hardly impressionable, and so far it’s never forsaken me.
