Jonathan & Sieglinde – Keen on apples & potatoes

Although located in the very city-center, this unique restaurant is just rarely frequented by tourists. That’s a shame, because there is no better place to experience a broader variety of dishes and drinks completely related to two of the most common and typical victuals in Austria: apples and potatoes.

By the way, Jonathan and Sieglinde are not the names of the innkeepers. In fact Jonathan is one of the best types of apples in the region and Sieglinde is a floury summer sort of potatoes.

Here you can choose your meals from umpteen types of apples. (In Austria potatoes are called “Erdapfel” – literally translated as “apple of the earth”.)

Don’t lose yourself in the huge variety of apple juices, apple musts, apple wines, ciders, schnapps, apple rosé, and many other apple drinks you never knew existed at all, because the choice of dishes will be even harder. Depending on the season there are always new and extraordinary creations on the menu. Vegetarians will be excited about the wide choice appropriate for them. But be careful! You might be seduced to try too many new dishes. I recommend to order the dessert just after finishing the plate(s) before. Otherwise you will probably regret the dessert order, because the portions are bigger and heavier than they sound – especially the single baked potato (Ofenerdapfel) is such a fallacy.
