The spa gardens in Oberlaa, a neighbourhood in the very south of the 10th district Favoriten, form an extremely multifaceted and diversified recreational area. Laid out on the southern hillside of Wienerberg they not only offer a great view over the southern borders of Vienna and the Zentralfriedhof. They contain a farm including a petting zoo, a lot of sport facilities, exceptional art installations and an outstanding variety of rare and exotic plants and flowers.
I strongly recommend to start at any of the northern entrances and to walk down the hill through the manifold micro-environments towards the “Therme Wien” (Facebook). This is Vienna’s only thermal spa, a huge hypermodern complex, which is a must especially during the cold seasons, be it because of the biggest sauna landscapes I have ever seen (for men, women, and mixed), or because of the slides, or because you can float outdoors in thermal waters while snowdrops fall on your head.
Next to the gates of the Therme Wien and the spa garden’s southern exit there is the bus station of lines 67E and 67B. The last one goes to U1 station Reumannplatz every 6-7 minutes. If you want to shorten the time to wait, take a look at the Kurkonditorei Oberlaa, a famous Viennese pastry shop. Well, there are a few branches in the city center as well, but here is its origin. After walking across the gardens and swimming in the spa an Apfelstrudel with whipped cream is highly deserved for sure.
