Flea markets have a great tradition in Vienna. By far the most famous is located next to Naschmarkt. Unfortunately mostly professional sellers can be found there, with an emphasis on antiques. Making a bargain, the ambition of most flea market visitors, is almost impossible there.
Therefore I prefer the flea market at Stadion Center. That’s an average shopping center in the 2nd district, nothing special at all, with a multi-storey car park. Several years ago some clever guys had the idea to turn the car park into a flea market originally every Sunday and holiday. In the meantime the flea market was shifted to Saturday. Independent from the weather, well protected under the roofs, here everybody can sell his own stuff, as long as it is nothing new, or in unopened original packaging. This opportunity is highly used by private persons. That’s why you will typically find things that are common content of a household, but also quite frequently I discover some hidden gems. The variety of second-hand clothes is for sure not worse than in any second-hand shop.
The flea market starts officially at 05:30 in the morning and in order to find the best pieces that’s also the latest time you should be there.
How to get there? Either by underground line U2 (station “Stadion”) or by bus line 11A or 77A. If you come by car, remember that you can’t use the car park.
