For centuries Vienna has always been a melting pot of ethnicities. First as the capital of a multicultural empire and nowadays as a liveable metropolis in the heart of Europe.
For which ever reason people from abroad settle down here, they always bring along their own identity, way of life and of course their language.
The language cafe is a regular meeting place located at the district exchange, where everybody is welcome to explore the cultures of the migrants, get to know these pluralistic inhabitants, and learn their languages. On every table a label indicates the language spoken there. At least one native speaker is sitting there, introducing everybody who is interested in his or her language.
Of course the language cafe is highly appreciated by people who are learning a specific language and want to find somebody to practice here, but apart from that, it is a perfect place just to simply get into contact with friendly and communicative people, and quite often these acquaintances lead to spontaneously organized excursions, new friendships and further meetings outside the language cafe.
Supported by the city council and due to the commitment of all participants the language cafe is for free, food and drinks are available for voluntary donations.
I love the unconstrained atmosphere there, and look forward to join in again.
