Some go there for a refreshing stop on their way along Danube island, others go there because of the original Indian food, but most people come to enjoy a relaxing time in an active atmosphere, surrounded by music. The Summer Station (a.k.a. “Der Inder“) offers all of it. It’s a kind of open-air-club, where you don’t pay any entrance fee, you don’t follow a certain dress code, and you can but you don’t have to get into dancing.
Enough of the dancefloor? On one hand there is the bar and the tables, and on the other hand the canvas chairs in the sand invite for a chill-out-time. More intimate and quiet places surround the location, either the meadows on the top of Danube island or at the bank of Neue Donau. Or you need a cool-down? Just jump into the water! For sure you will not be the only one.
I like the Summer station, because every part of the day has its charm. During the day it’s perfect for sunbathing, relaxing and chilling, while during the night it turns into a rare (at least in Vienna) open-air-club, which does not need to turn the music down, because there are no neighbours to complain. Nevertheless it’s well connected: 10 min walk and you reach U1 (Donauinsel), U6, S-Bahn (Handelskai) or nightlines.
The best moment: Especially in June it’s amazing to watch the sun rising between Donauturm and the skyscrapers of Donau City while still dancing at the parties there, far beyond 03:00.
