Pizza Mari’ is a minimalist pizzeria, no kitsch on the walls, no Eros Ramazotti as background music, no Austrianised Italian dishes, just Pizza, the basic of the basics. If you are looking for a Pizza Fantasia or Pizza Hawaii you are definitely at the wrong place, there are Austrians, Arabs, Turks and many more selling this kind of Pizza on every corner, but not here!

They have plenty of space inside and if you are lucky you’ll find on a nice day even a free table outside. Watch out, as they pizza makers are Italians, they do ferragosto, which means they go to the beach in August, so no Pizza!

Best choice: a beer and a Pizza Margherita and you will be the happiest person… and please don’t order Cappuccino after dinner (as you wouldn’t be ordering cornflakes after dinner!)

Now repeat after me: “No more cappuccino after dinner, no more pizza Hawaii and please, for God’s sake, don’t ask for ketchup never ever!”

NEW: The have opened a mini supermarket next door with typical Italian goods!

At a hidden corner in the 15th district we discovered this Italian restaurant, Il Tavoliere. One would expect a fake Italian chef who pretends to know what Italian cuisine is at first impression of this restaurant. Most probably because it used to be that kind of Italian restaurant.

A Southern-Italian chef took over the restaurant and for starters focuses on the important thing, the quality of the food. That the interiors are somehow cheesy, doesn’t matter at this point. The pizza has a fair price and is crunchy and thin like in Rome, it’s baked in an electric oven though. It is a good choice for a quick and easy dinner. If you are up for something more special, their menu offers some great Italian delights. A good starter is their “Antipasti for two”, with typical Italian cheese, sausages and pickles which come on 22 small plates (€ 22).

As a first course you might want to try some of their pasta dishes. The pasta is homemade, fresh and can be purchased for take-away too. The highlight on the menu is fish (sea bass or other) in salt crust, which is served by the chef on a serving trolley and prepared in front of your eyes.

All in all a restaurant for those who appreciate good quality food.
