The Votiv-Kino next to the Votiv church in the 9th district differs from these huge megaplex-mainstream-cinemas. It is old, it is small, it is personal and it enables the movies to influence the audience also beyond the screen. That’s what makes it so special.
For example once a month on a Saturday, there is “film & wine”. Within the scope of a morning performance, you can watch a movie and afterwards a vinotheque or a winegrower presents some wines connected to the movie. Or there is the Filmfrühstück. Every Sunday from October till June you will get breakfast followed by a movie. Other initiatives like the babykino, cinema for pets etc. prove the unconventional approach of the Votiv-Kino towards the world of motion pictures.
I appreciate the fine selection of independent movies, usually in the original version with subtitles, which you can hardly find anywhere else. In return I easily accept that the old fashioned seats can’t compete with the comfort of those in modern cinemas anymore.
The entrance to the cinema is located directly in front of the tram station Schwarzspanierstraße (Line 37, 38, 40, 41, 42).
Students will get € 1 reduction on standard tickets.
