You might wonder what these huge white and red “W” signs and posters all over Vienna might mean…But now with the new setup and director you find also the translation: fest, fiesta, festival! It is Wiener Festwochen: Six weeks of grand art from all over the world – theatre, dance, concerts, performances – all happening downtown in Vienna in various locations, like hall E and G in MuseumsQuartier, in Theater an der Wien or right on the street!
Yes, I’m glad that once again it’s time for the Festwochen, a festival which was established in 1951! Though I’ve been a fan of tis famous festival since I moved to Vienna, this May and June I am very curious again! The new – and much more experimental – director Thomas Zierhofer-Kin is focusing on many exciting productions. And Festwochen are presenting artists and ensembles from many different countries, often showing their work in the original language.
I have to admit that I am very excited to see Jude Law on stage and see the opera of famous artist Jonathan Meese. Can’t wait to see a lot of that stuff!
I hope that you are lucky to get into one of the great performances from all over the world. Check out the website, tickets are very sought after! But there will also be a lot of cool evenings with parties going on in the Castle Schloss Neugebäude.
See you there!
