Theatre to the majority of the people nowadays might seem like a dull and slumber causing activity. And I can’t totally disagree with them. It does happen. I once even had a pleasant nap in one of the theatres myself. But there’s a saying that every rule has an exception. Time to wake up for some standard breaking theatre action!
Menų spaustuvė represents the new school of theatre. The new school with a new approach to acting and interaction with the audience. The theatre is settled in an old printing house in the old town. Thus it’s not a surprise that the translation of the Lithuanian name “Menų spaustuvė” simply means the arts printing house. And you know what? They do their “arts printing” in the best manner you’ve ever imagined.
Every single act I’ve been to left a vivid recollection for months. Furthermore, sometimes you don’t even need money to get some cultural gain from the stage, because Menų spaustuvė every now and then prepares free entrance acts. You also shouldn’t be afraid of this theatre because of the language barrier. There are always acts with no specific spoken language or even brought in English.
To sum up – two stages, a cosy cafeteria, amazingly friendly staff and a programme worth much more than a monthly visit! The arms are wide open for your visit, just take a step.
