Would you like to spend an evening in a local high-end restaurant, dressed to kill and sipping an expensive drink? Steer clear of this place! However, if you’re curious to see a less usual bar in this city and have a good beer you might want to make your way over here.
“Šnekutis” serves beer from small breweries all over Lithuania and every single one is home-brewed. The beer is the sole reason people come here and it’s famous even with visitors from other Lithuanian cities. The bar also has a counterpart in Vilnius – another place owned by the same people, bearing the same name (check out this article) and serving the same menu. However, this one is the “older brother” – the first that was opened by the eccentric beer maker from Pasvalys.
The food is mostly local specialties, meaning – you guessed it – various dishes with meat and potatoes and a very limited choice for vegetarians. The more brave and adventurous may even go for the local dish of pig ears that some visitors think is just plain scary, but there’s always the less stressful choice of pancakes and cepelinai.
The interior of this bar is what’s so unusual, certainly not something that would come to mind when someone mentions the word “bar”: turtles in an aquarium, large wooden tables and a collection of tools and junk one would normally expect to find in grandpa’s shed. But trust me, after a few beers you’ll feel right at home here.
