Although Blikle is now a chain cake shop that you can find in every big Polish city, I still like going back to their coffee house in Nowy Świat Street, now legendary because it has existed in the same place for generations and is the site of their original bakery back from the 19th century. Because of this tradition, the interiors are still kept in a vintage style and you will be served by the elegantly dressed, attentive staff.
You won’t find find fancy modern sweet inventions here, but the reason I come here is for the classics, especially the famous doughnuts filled with roses or WZ (pronounced in Polish as “wuzetka”) which is said to be the cake of Warsaw. It will taste best with one of their delicious coffees. And if you’re feeling hungry, you can order something savoury first before filling your stomach with sweets.
In summer, you can sit in the terrace outside and watch people passing by on Nowy Świat and get an ice cream available in an assortment of flavours.
