Relaxing

Spiskowcy Rozkoszy (Polish for Pleasure Conspirators) is a bar with all possible beer sorts (and they have got about 50 of them – check their FB page for an impressive beer gallery) and joyous, relaxed atmosphere. Some people come here just to play games (assorted games can be found on a shelf), read books or newspapers, some come here just to chat. Many tables are occupied by not only two but six, eight or ten people. Incredible in this tiny little place? This is what I call good atmosphere.

Spiskowcy Rozkoszy was opened some time ago (2011?) and it’s been a place to meet my friends many times ever since. As I already mentioned it’s a place where there is always more room for another guest – no matter how crowded it already is inside.

They serve snacks so do not hesitate to come here a bit hungry. It’s not all about beer.

After many accidents and chance events the National Stadium is finally here. It survived an inefficient communication system between the staff, huge bonuses for managers who did not really fulfill their tasks, stairs which were not adequately constructed to bear the load of the weight of so many fans and replacement of the faulty turf. All of these + jogging of the Minister of Sports, Joanna Mucha (she promised to jog around the stadium if it wasn’t ready on time), were closely watched by the public. 

Finally the stadium is completed and it definitely is one of the most modern stadia in today’s Europe. During the European Football Championship 2012 five matches were played here. Recently the match between Poland and England did not take place because the roof of the stadium was not closed at the right time. Well, at least there are even more things to write about. The stadium definitely is Europe’s most famous one…

If you have ever wondered which Polish park is the most beautiful? You should visit my favourite one – Park Skaryszewski. In 2009 it was named the 3rd most lovely public park in Europe.

It’s located next to the National Stadion where EURO 2012 was performed. But who cares. Let’s take a look at the nature. Skaryszak (short name) is quite large (almost 60 ha). Inside you can see 280 species of trees, squirrels, ducks and other lovely animals. There are also small interior rivers, a lake with an island and even a waterfall. The charming pond is an oxbow lake, a meander cut off from the main stream of the Vistula river, and there is a boat hire service available from the bankside bars.

Soon Park Skaryszewski will be closed entirely for general refurbishment. It is said that it would be more elegant (without pipes and soviet monuments) and more European however I do not believe them. For me it’s perfect like it is: wild, natural and splendid. So hurry up to relax there as it is now.

Cemeteries in Poland have a special meaning to most Poles. I believe it is not only due to religious reasons but also, and more importantly because of the great respect Polish people have for their history. 

I personally consider some of the old cemeteries to be somewhat of a gateway into another time.

The Evangelical Cemetery of the Augsburg Confession is located close to the city center and is very different from other cemeteries in Warsaw due to its closeness to nature and what was left from before the Second World War.

Even though it is a relatively small cemetery, it has a couple of notables buried here, for instance the founder of Poland’s most famous chocolate brand Wedel. 

The Krasinskich Gardens are one of my favorite places to visit if I want to get away from the intensity of urban life. The gardens are located just a couple of minutes walk from the old town, and are most of the time uncrowded.

It’s a perfect place to just sit down on a bench, listen to the birds sing and breathe in the fresh smells of nature and simply live in the moment.

The gardens are over 200 years old and have a wide variety of various trees and flowers.

During the fall season the beautiful shades of orange and yellow leaves make this park look even more magical!
