Warsaw is not an obvious place. It took me a couple of years to know the best places in town, since they are hidden in unexpected locations.
Eufemia is one of the spot I cannot miss: I go there at least once every month. Located in the ground floor of the Academy of Fine Arts, the place offers good music and even better prices.
The first time I visited it was 7 years ago, when it was still functioning as the cafeteria of the Fine Arts Academy during the day. My friend and I got involved in a discussion, so after lunch we stayed for coffee (not recommended, the coffee I mean) and then the miracle happened: a couple of young guys came, the ladies serving food left, a garden was set outside and the music started playing. Then we asked for a gin tonic (Lubulski gin is the local gin but for ice you’d better ask!)
Eufemia is not a standard place. Mostly frequented by art students, it’s located in one of the oldest rebuilt buildings of the historical centre, and when there are DJ sets the garden in summer can get very crowded.
It’s not about the very affordable drinks, their taste for “Animal Collective”, it’s not even about the good music or the biking public; it’s about the mood: the smile of the people, the old-fashioned style that offers a unique Warsaw experience.
