Mirella von Chrupek is an eccentric artist, photographer, blogger and collector. Her specialty is small forms. She creates weird and wonderful worlds and fairytales in miniature. She conjures impossible creatures and brings big-eyed dolls to life, she invites dinosaurs in to the big city, along with fireflies and rainbows.
One day, when passing a beautiful old, run-down, abandoned tenement house in the center of Warsaw, right off of Plac Zbawiciela, she noticed that the glass display case, which for so many years presented the work of a master shoemaker to passersby, stood empty. It was a sad sight. Yet it inspired her. She inquired about the case and soon rented it.
She decided to share her fairytales with the general public and maybe just brighten their days a bit. The display case became her own mini-gallery: once a month or once every few months von Chrupek surprises passersby with a small glimpse into a brand new world of hers. You could pass by and never even notice – but maybe that is just what von Chrupek teaches us, to slow down and look around! It’s so nice to see tiny bit of magic in the monotony of everyday-ness.
