It used to be Mokotów’s best known pub/cafe/restaurant (for a long time it was the only one). Whenever I was meeting with my friends we ended up at Regeneracja, drinking ginger beer and eating Zapiekanki (long pieces of bread baked with cheese and herbs).
But Regeneracja isn’t only about eating. It’s one of those places where you don’t even know why you like it so much. Maybe it’s because of the cozy sofas where you can drink your coffee while reading the newspaper during the day. Or maybe it’s the wooden terrace where we’ve watched so many broadcasts of football matches, and gossiped by candlelight. Or maybe it’s because so many concerts and events take place there.
Even though very often you have to wait to be served, and the service is rather nonchalant, you’d still go out there – that’s part of the climate. No one stresses you out, no one hurries you.
Now I am not there as often as I used to be, but I still feel very nostalgic about this place. The beer and zapiekanki are still there, but nowadays I order one of their pastas or salads.
Although so popular amongst Polish celebrities, Regeneracja has never become a posh, snobbish place. No one puts on airs here. It’s like visiting a good friend, or friendly neighbor. And it’s always – according to its name – regenerating.
