The Monroe Street Market in Brookland, Northeast DC, is a mixed-use building complex with apartments and businesses. The Arts Walk is part of this project: basically a lineup of workshops/stores where resident artists create and sell their work. Many artistic areas are covered: craft, photography, painting, clothing, decoration and a lot more. The whole point was to stay true to, while expanding, the concept of Brookland as an arts district.
Many of the outdoor activities are concentrated from spring to fall but the shops are open year-round on third Thursdays. The small but great Farmer’s Market is closed during the winter.
I like to go there right after work to window shop, browse and then have dinner at Brookland Pint or Busboys and Poets. The best way to know what is happening is to follow their Facebook page. The Arts Walk and its surroundings are brand new and constantly evolving, every few months there is something opening up.
So many good things are happening in Brookland lately, I’m glad to be around.
