I don’t think many people understand DC to be a creative community, but honestly, that’s what keeps me here. The city is full of murals by well-known artists and people flock to areas full of colorful surroundings. Two of my favorite locations of murals in the city are U Street and Blagden Alley.
I highly recommend you walk around both and keep your eyes peeled for surprises. During my walk to and from work, I always make an effort to walk through Blagden Alley. This brick covered alley houses some of the best art murals in the city. These art pieces created by local artists seem to change depending on the time of day you visit them, so I recommend stopping by a couple of times if possible. The alley also houses a few of DC’s best restaurants, like The Dabney or one of the best crafted cocktails at The Columbia Room. If you have time to stop and sit, make sure you grab a coffee at La Colombe and take in the area.
Walking through this tiny niche in the city, I feel inspired and recharged. My camera and I spend a lot of time in this area, taking the same photos, but each one feels different depending on the light of the day. Don’t miss out on this feeling. Make sure you look for the Blagden Alley Street sign while you are walking down N Street NW between 10th and 9th.
