Ethiopian cuisine is very popular in Washington DC, because of the large Ethiopian community that lives in the area. If you have never had Ethiopian food, it definitely makes for a fun and intimate experience – typically eaten family style and with your hands. Ethiopic is my favorite Ethiopian in the city – a modern and minimalistic room in the upcoming Atlas District. But beware, it is definitely authentic, which also means it is SPICY!

But if you can handle some heat – don’t miss their “Awaze Tibs”, beef cooked in a spicy sauce. It goes perfectly with the Veggie Platter, which includes a variety of lentil dishes and vegetables. Soak up all the sauce in the “injera”, an ethiopian fermented bread. Wash it down with an Ethiopian lager, or some Ethiopian honey wine.

Make a reservation – this popular spot fills up on weekends. Portion sizes of platters are big – do plan on sharing!
