There are many different types of memorials in Washington D.C dedicated to all types of significant people/moments in U.S history. On my walk home from work, I decided to take a different route and stumbled upon a beautiful and tranquil setting with sculptures of lionesses along marbled perimeter walls, perfectly trimmed shrubbery, and of course, a centralized fountain.
I decided to further inspect and found that it was a memorial dedicated to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. There were wreaths along the ledge surrounding the memorial and some of them had notes and pictures with words of gratitude and inspiration. I decided to walk around the perimeter and read the notes on the wreaths and found that it it humanized the law enforcement officers.
Quotes are carved into the marble walls to commemorate those who have served. It is a peaceful but powerful memorial that allows the onlooker to take their time and appreciate the different elements of the memorial. I am so glad that I decided to take a new way home from work because this memorial is definitely worth revisiting.
