I love this bar because it is what comes to mind when you think of an old school Washington bar. It’s a dimly lit bar, with red velvet and wood paneling, right across from the South lawn of the White House, in the basement of the historic Hay Adams hotel. When I go to OTR, I feel like I am going in there to enjoy my drink after a long day of important business or politics, or where I am making a secret deal. It’s a gorgeous and classy bar that almost reeks of power and history.

Off The Record specializes in high-end cocktails, and they make a great Manhattan, Old Fashioned or Pimm’s cup. Drinks are definitely on the expensive side, but are worth every penny. Also check out the amazing collection of political cartoons on the walls – they are fantastic.

To me, there is something very exciting about not knowing who you are going to see there, or whose “off the record” conversation you just might stumble upon!
