Let me start this post with an obvious statement: I love to eat. As readers can tell from my past posts, I tend to give gastronomic advice. However, I am going to (slightly) switch it up. I am adding humor to the mix. Philos Mezze and Wine Bar has comedy every Friday night thanks to their star bartender and comedian, Brock. The lineup consists of local and funny women and men who come together at the small Mediterranean restaurant on the corner of 4th and Mass Ave to test out their new material and a lot of it pokes fun at the realities of living, working, and socializing in Washington, DC. The comics tend to be very conversational during their 15 minute sets and many have the ability to unite the audience in full belly laughs.
The food and drinks add a classier touch to the event. Brock and his fellow bartenders have a flair for creativity and are the kind of bartenders who will match your beverage to whatever flavors you are in the mood for at that point in time. The kitchen has cheese and charcuterie plates as well as delicious burgers to pair with your wine/cocktail. The tough part is trying not to choke while listening to a comic’s discussion of their terrible dating life. Consider yourself warned.
