The Rock & Roll Hotel is the ideal spot if you are looking for a small, low-key venue in Capitol Hill/H St. The artists who play here are typically less known, though often quite talented (St. Vincent, Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, and Phoenix all played here!) The venue is intimate (standing room only) and unfortunately it can sometimes be difficult to see the stage unless you are towards the front or just really tall. The drinks are also very reasonably priced. If you arrive before 8pm, there are often happy hour deals ($3 Tallboy Tacates, $4 rails, and $1 off everything else). There are also bars on the second and third floors with DJ’s every Friday and Saturday (no cover) for your enjoyment following the show.
Tickets usually range from about $15-$20 depending on if you purchase them in advance. If you do purchase them online, expect a short line outside the door before entry into the show.
Insider’s tip: depending on who is playing, I would recommend you arrive early to avoid lines, enjoy the happy hour and get a good spot by the stage!
