As I have mentioned about 1 million times to anyone who will listen, I love to read and I will do so almost anywhere. I always have a spare book in my bag just in case I find a nice open spot to sit. My life is pretty busy so whenever I get a chance to slow down, I jump at it. A fabulous place to slow down in the summer is the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden which is located near the Archives Metro Station and the United States Naval Monument. There are some interesting and fun sculptures which are worth taking some time to appreciate.
There is also a gorgeous fountain where you can sit on the edge and stick your feet in on a warm day. Most people will just walk right by the fountain, but it is huge and there is plenty of room for you to stretch out and relax on the side.
The fountain is next to the Pavilion Cafe which is by the 7th street entrance. The area is behind some trees so it blocks out the noise from the traffic that is not too far away. It is like a little oasis on a hot and sticky summer day in D.C. In the winter, the fountain turns into an ice skating rink!
