Tonic – Legalize tots

Tonic is a George Washington University staple that is near the center of campus. It was originally Quigley’s Pharmacy, which is where Jackie Kennedy Onassis worked while she studied at GW. Another fun historical fact: during the Vietnam War protests, Quigley’s served as a place for protestors to hide from the teargas that police were firing at the protestors.

Now let’s move on to the present, Tonic is known for their creative beverage concoctions such as their Whiskey Disco and their delicious food, especially their tater tots. In fact, the servers wear shirts that say “Show me your tots” and “Legalize tots”. I love a good play on words.

Tonic’s menu consists of standard bar food: burgers, sandwiches, salads, sides. However, they take a typical D.C twist and have options like “Brian’s Brie Sandwich” which has granny smith apples and brie on an intense ham sandwich. My personal favorite snack option is the Totchos. I have to get it every time I go. I mean, a place that combines tater tots, beef chili, chicken, guacamole, and the standard nacho fixings will always have a special spot in my heart…probably from all of the cholesterol.
