Among locals, bistro Kod Šime (English: At Šime’s) serves as a perfect example of a great but inexpensive eatery. Its menu consists of traditional Croatian dishes – from Continental to Mediterranean – which usually don’t cost more than € 10. The bistro is also known for its huge portions: if you order a soup, it will be served in a giant bowl, and if you order a “proper” dish like sarma, it will probably make your trousers pop open.
Its interior is modest and rather small, but its terrace is spacious and charming. Situated right in front of a nice park near Kvaternikov trg, it provides a beautiful view on a small meadow, trees and a little fountain, always filled with playful children and friendly dogs (and their owners).
Obviously, this place gets packed easily, especially on weekends and during the spring and summer months. However, people come and go, so it shouldn’t be a problem to find a table within 5 or 10 minutes. The staff is usually very friendly and willing to assist you, regardless of all the work they do.
All in all, Kod Šime represents a budget-friendly place for hungry people eager to experience authentic Croatian cuisine.
