In the last few years, the foodie culture has successfully conquered Croatia. Besides new glorious food magazines and great concept restaurants opening left and right, Croatian foodies have come up with new ways of meeting and sharing gastro experiences. One of them, also my personal favourite, is the so-called Mali plac s Tavana, literally meaning ‘a little attic food market’.
The project began by turning an attic into a social space where local food producers could present their products ranging from milk and eggs to vegetables, fruit, honey, pastries, natural cosmetics… You name it, it was there; all organic or containing only natural ingredients. As time passed by, the little market grew into a well-received popular event that now takes place in Branimir mall on Wednesday afternoons. Occasionally, you’ll also stumble upon a pop-up edition in various locations in the city.
People cook throughout the day, special cocktails are made, producers often end up selling their whole batch, and everybody goes home happy. Everyone is welcome to visit, taste, comment, buy, or simply hang out with other food enthusiasts. Follow their Facebook page, check out the pics of mouthwatering products waiting for you, and go!
