Founded in 1936, Slasticarnica Orijent is one of the oldest pastry shops in Zagreb. It is a family run business with a unique approach to cakes and ice-creams. They don’t bother following standardized recipes – instead, they frequently make up their own. Needless to say, their recipes are creative and adjusted to seasonal ingredients.
The interior hasn’t been redecorated for a long time, so it serves as a kind of treat as well. However, it doesn’t have a toilet, so keep that in mind when visiting the place. The staff is very friendly and helpful – especially if you don’t know which cake to pick. Namely, they all look great.
This pastry shop is situated in the Eastern area of the city, so it makes a perfect rest stop after spending your time at Maksimir Belvedere or having lunch at Kod Šime or burek at Vrući burek. Although their prices aren’t very low, the pastries are certainly worth your visit.
