I have been walking past this spot since forever – cause it’s on the way from my house to downtown. For the longest time, while I was a kid, there had been this old-school, but somehow interesting tailor shop, that I would sometimes, not too often, stop in front of and peer inside. However, I remember my mom used to get interesting pieces there, which at the time were of no interest to my rebel teenage self.
And then in 2003, an interesting switch happened. The shop was redesigned into this light, airy space with really interesting pieces inside. So little by little, I started going in more, then I started buying these cool funky pants that had oversized pockets and straps which made them convertible. The more I stepped in, the more I got to know about the story of the place as well – the original owner, Vinko, was a tailor and opened the shop at that same spot 40 years ago. His two kids followed in their father’s footsteps and got themselves involved in art and design, which contributed to the 2003 redesign of the shop. The brother and sister now design all of Taja’s collections. Their interesting coats are made of high quality virgin alpaca and merino wool as well as other only natural materials.
Take this and combine it with a cool design and you’ve got a really great product. Highly recommended for everyone who is looking for something outside the standard high street offer.
