Meštrović’s architectural masterpiece is at the moment hosting a multimedia exhibition called “Nikola Tesla – Mind From The Future”.
Tesla was a visionary scientist born in Croatia (or more precisely, a part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy that is now Croatia). It’s enough to say that Encyclopedia Britannica included him in the list of the 10 most important people in world history. This exhibition has been announced as the greatest scientific-artistic event of the year in Croatia, and so far it has sparked a lot of interest, with record-breaking number of visitors. It will run till 2nd April, when it will go on tour in the cities where Tesla lived: Budapest, Prague, Paris, New York, and finally to Dubai EXPO in 2020.
Meštrović’s pavilion has been completely transformed to host an interactive story about the crucial impact Tesla left on science as well as about his influence on contemporary artists. The exhibition starts with a more static and informative part about Tesla’s early life and gradually becomes more and more interactive: the circular gallery is leading the visitor through creative installations which immerse the visitor into Tesla’s magic world. The exhibition was conceived as an artistic view on Tesla as a scientist, humanist and philosopher, featuring Croatian and international artists whose works merge art, animation, computer games and technical innovations.
I recommend taking a very informative free audio guide and enough time to thoroughly enjoy the exhibition, i.e. at least two hours. Hours will slip away before you know it.
