Zurich is seeing a revival of the good old life. You know, rooftop vegetable gardens, Millennials opting for part-time work so they can volunteer on farms, etc. Or am I confusing my own aspirations with those of the entire city’s? Somehow I don’t think I’m alone in this sentiment.
It’s no surprise then, that a new Genossenschaft has emerged on the border between Kreis 3 and 4. It’s essentially a cooperative living space. You can go up and wander around and take a look at the families enjoying each others’ company. Be warned, it might make some of you jealous.
On the bottom floor of the building us neighbours have been spoiled with a new, hip cinema (the baby bro of Riff Raff), a scrumptious cafe, the new Wohnzimmerbar (all of which will be covered here soon, I’m sure!).
My personal favourite is the organic grocery shop. Lots of organic/health food shops here are vegetarian by nature, but this place sells fresh, locally produced organic meat, which is a huge plus point for the ethical omnivore. The milk is on tap and so are many of the grains, oils and vinegars. The booze selection puts a skip in my step, as does the cheese counter.
Go grab some locally produced sausages and swig from a Züri brewed craft beer for the full experience. You can also take courses at the weekend, take a look at Sobre Mesa.com and prepare to make space in your brain!
