I hate starting an article on a negative note, but often I find it’s the most effective way to highlight how positive something else is in contrast. I had been ripped off and disappointed by tailors and seamstresses in Zurich for seven years running before I discovered Fadegrad. And what a relief!
For someone with an ever-deepening respect for high quality clothes, meaning clothes made of sustainable, natural materials and that are made to last, the need to learn to sew seemed to be looming. I like to repair what I already have in order to avoid throwing things away and, truth be told, having to go shopping. But I’m a busy girl. Learning how to operate a sewing machine, while useful in the long run, was just another thing to tack onto an out-of-control to-do list.
In line with my talent for procrastination, I peered into Fadegrad one day and decided to take my jeans there for repair. 14 CHF to sew up, and very beautifully conceal, the huge hole I had on my bum. The jeans in question had set me back 150 CHF and when you have short, muscular Asian legs, the thought of going jeans shopping is cold sweat-inducing. Money well spent is an understatement. A second pair of jeans swiftly ripped themselves as if to say, “my turn!” and the same great job was done.
If you’re looking for someone who treats your clothes like their own, Sonia is that person!
