The Niederdorf is Zurich’s old town and it’s really sweet and quite beautiful. It’s also good for shopping, especially fashion (also second hand), and there are a lot of bars and restaurants. My problem is: There’s a lot of places that are a bit too fancy for my taste.

So if you’re in the Niederdorf and looking for a dark Bar where you get a White Russian with 2/3 of Vodka because the bartender is really drunk (and you don’t want to meet to many fellow tourists/travelers), look out for the Kon-Tiki. The place used to be the smokiest bar I knew before the no smoking law – now one of the defining characteristics is gone. Still a great place though.

The music program consists of rock, and a lot of metal. And it’s pretty loud. So if you want to have tea and have good conversations, this place might not be the best choice – I agree, and there are times I don’t feel like going to the Kon-tiki. On the other hand there are times where beers and loud music are exactly what I need. How about you?
