If there’s one reason to defy the shuffling masses on the ever crowded Leidsesquare, it is this tiny gem located right around the corner. The Spuyt. A tiny traditional-looking bar with over a hundred (international and local) beers to choose from. Also very nice: this bar has the kindest (and beer-savvy!) staff that can definitely help you discover some surprising new beers.
The Spuyt has a warm atmosphere, a few cosy nooks and an inviting bar to hang out at. I love the fact that it’s never too crowded (it probably does get busier late at night – but that, admittedly, is past my bedtime). The healthy mix of locals, students and tourists that visit the Spuyt is just right and you could easily strike up a conversation with some interesting people here, if that is something you are into at all.
Make sure you try their cheese platter! A very nice combination with a fruity IPA or Blonde beer.
