As an atheist, you might not find me very often in a church. However, I had heard such great stories about this little gem in the city center that I was curious enough to attend one of their weekend morning masses. The great thing is that every first Sunday of the month it can be attended for free.
The contrast between the entrance of this small museum and the actual church could not be greater. The first is very clean and modern, while the latter has the charm of an old attic with creaking stairs. On my way up, I spotted a lot of information points at which visitors of the museum could get information about this place that is said to be a symbol of tolerance in Amsterdam. My experience included an accessible introduction to the church in a beautiful place somewhere surrounded by the hustle and the bustle of the city center.
For people interested in the story behind this location I would recommend coming on a normal weekday and making use of their audio tour. Otherwise, that first Sunday of the month should be reserved for a moment of peace and quiet in the best attic in Amsterdam.
