Economy 101: when there is a demand for something there is bound to be a supply. And so, following this logic, when there are a lot of people working for banks and other big corporations who come out of their high towers at lunchtime, you can bet there is a good sandwich shop nearby. In the case of Amsterdam Southeast, the best Italian sandwich shop there is in Amsterdam: Pasta di Mamma.
These guys are tucked away in the Shopperhal, a roof-covered shopping center that has some great shops under its roofs but where you wouldn’t expect to find Amsterdam’s best Italian sandwich.
The bread is baked fresh and behind the glass counter, all kinds of Italian meats, grilled vegetables, olive oil, and herbs look at you right in the face. On the left, there is a chalkboard with famous Italian names on them and among them some football players who unveil the owner’s preference when it comes to Milanese football clubs. But behind that are the ingredients that go on the sandwich bearing that name and if you didn’t have it all ready you’ll have it now: stress!
But luckily you can’t go really wrong, they are all good but for me, there is only the Mirafiori. Countless times I’ve made a deal with myself to choose differently, but each time I cave when I am about to order: truffle mousse, Parma ham and provolone topped with herbs and balsamic cream: yes, please!
