Sometimes overlooked because we know what we can expect, Restaurant De Knijp is still alive and kicking. For 40 years now De Knijp has been making people feel welcome and at ease. Families, couples and concert visitors, you may find very different people here.
Close to the main museums and the Concertgebouw De Knijp is a very popular place to have dinner before (between 18:00 – 20:00) or after the concert (from appr. 22:30 onwards until 00:30). Just mention that you are going to the Concertgebouw so the waiters know you are on a rather tight schedule. What is also special about De Knijp is that you can come in after midnight for dinner which is rare in Amsterdam.
The menu has a lot of classics to offer like the snails and mushrooms with garlic cream sauce and the caprese salad but today we prefer the Risotto with mushrooms and Parmesan and the Oysters (fines de claires). As a main course I order the veal liver with mushrooms and onions although the Catch of the Day, the swordfish with soy-ginger sauce is tempting. And would I recommend the Tournedos with shallots sauce! If you are into classic desserts you may like the Chocolate Mousse, Creme Brulee, Bavarois or the Belgian waffle with vanilla ice cream. The menu list may vary because of the season so Asparagus are on the menu in the Spring and in the Fall wildfowl and game.
The terrace outside is fine and well-suited for the smokers.
