Hidden in the east, around the corner of one of Amsterdams hospitals and tucked away in a seemingly quiet street is Roost (where “oost” means “east” in Dutch). A small shop with big ambitions.
Stepping into Roost might not be that spectacular. A quiet, serene atmosphere welcomes you and the staff is ready to help you while there seems to be a lot happening in the kitchen behind the counter. Their menu is simple but good. Chicken and cheese sandwiches, carrot cake, lemon poppy seed cakes, great brownies and a killer chocolate pie is all accompanied by good coffee or a drink.
A talk with one of the staff members reveals an international team and their main business: catering. With no more than 10 tables and seats, the shop is quite small but the kitchen and their equipment reaches far into the building Roost resides in. The changing menu of cakes and sandwiches shows their ambition and the execution of it shows their experience in the culinary scene.
Be sure to stop by and try out anything before Roost is too big.
