Being a Brit in Amsterdam can be hard at times, especially when I’m craving fish & chips and there isn’t a chippy anywhere to be found! And although it may not seem like much to some, sometimes it’s just the kind of comfort food I want to remind me of home.
So when I heard about the Good Companion, an actual fish & chips restaurant, I was excited to try it! They serve a few different kinds of fish and chips and also some other fish dishes. Besides the classic cod they also have a weekly special, the bycatch of the day, served with thousand island dressing. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that all dishes are served with mushy peas. The quality of the fish is really good, the batter is light, crispy, and well seasoned, and there’s even Eton Mess on the dessert menu. All in all, I now know where to go to satisfy my fish and chips cravings, and to top it all off, the fish is all caught sustainably, which makes me even happier!
