One of the most special nights out in recent years — with the respective prices! — can be found at Vuurtoreneiland!
This dining experience takes place at a designated island near Amsterdam where a fort dating back to the first World War is located. During the summer and winter months, the organisers transform this setting into a restaurant — either in a specially placed cabin or the remainders of the fort itself, depending on the season — where a high-cuisine, multiple-course menu is served.
Because of the special location and food I experienced a certain kind of exclusiveness there. Especially since there are only 30 places every day.
First, our evening started with a welcome drink and bread platter on a boat near the Lloyd hotel that picks everyone up for a 20-minute journey to the island. On arrival, we got a a small guided tour around the area before the tables were set up for dinner and the appetizers served. During this time, around 5 courses were served while we had the opportunity to choose our own drinks (wine, beer or lemonade is included) from the allocated cellar.
After three hours the boat takes everyone back to the place of departure, which is near Central Station.
Tickets for the winter restaurant (Oct – Apr) are now for sale, and those for the summer restaurant (May – Sep) will be available starting on March 1st. Be sure to be on time – at least 2 months in advance – as the tickets are very popular!
