OH, winter is in town! But be strong: take your running shoes and enjoy the skyline of our city Antwerp.
Running in this little city lake helps me escape from the vibrant atmosphere of Antwerp a bit. While running, I enjoy the view I have from there of the Antwerp Skyline. The soft ground treats my feet and knees well, as it is a ‘Finnish’ piste (covered with bark). In the morning it is a quiet place for my morning run. After running I sometimes dare to relax at the little (summer) bar at back of the lake ‘Galgenweel’.
Start from the center and take the ‘Sint-Annatunnel’ (check the Sint-Annatunnel article) under the river ‘De Schelde’. Head to the left and then towards the lake. The circuit around the lake is around 3 kilometers.
The Galgenweel measures 47,6 hectare and is located at the left side of the river ‘Schelde’. Fishermen and women come here to catch for their dinner. Sailing clubs are located here as well, and if you look carefully, you might spot a diver. Not during wintertime of course, but you should still come then for a quiet morning walk.
Personal tip: hungry after your walk or run? Head back to the water and go left. Close to Sint-Annatunnel, you will spot ‘t Link kieke, a popular neighbourhood taverna. Try the chicken.
