Het Beestenbos is literally, around the corner from my house :). I love to come here on a day off, to enjoy the sunshine and read a book on the terrace. Or take that book inside and curl up in the cozy interior (plants galore!).
In the evening, I gather up some friends and we stay on the terrace and discuss the news and other very important world events -ahum-, accompanied with some delicious snacks coming from the tiny kitchen. I like the atmosphere, my friends like the fact that the owner has Jack’s IPA on tap. Everybody’s happy :).
Around dinnertime, tables fill up with neighbors and other locals and plates filled with Southern Comfort Soul Food are served. They have a fixed menu and a daily specials board.
A nice time to visit is Wednesday afternoon in the summertime (starting around April). The school behind the corner is out and all the parents and kids gather outside this cafe. That’s when you feel this neighborhood come truly alive. Or just hop by whenever you’re looking for a place to hang and stay till you forget what time it is but you know the evening was worth it because the memories will last:).
