The Nachtegalenpark is well known in and all around Antwerp. It’s a popular place for young and old on weekends, holidays, the summer season and sunny winter days. In fact, the Nachtegalenpark is a collective name for three parks: Vogelzang, Den Brandt and Middelheim…. It’s a green oasis of a whopping 90 hectares. Once they belonged to some noble families. Thankfully, the city council bought the castle domains in 1910 and opened them as one big park.
You can enjoy them for free, so when you have had enough of the busy and crowded city center, you can flee away for as long as you want. Just grab one of the Velo bikes which you can find everywhere in Antwerp. A Velo daypass will cost you 4 euros, but a visit is worth the price!
In park Middelheim you can visit a beautiful open-air museum. Park Vogelzang is a cozy family park with large lawns, a playground and a small animal park. In park Den Brandt, you can find – besides lovely walking trails – a public garden where you can go for all kinds of fruits and herbs which you can pick as many of as you want! This garden is freely accessible from sunrise to sunset for any visitor who wants to harvest a little apple or some cherries.
