Thai Restaurant River Kwai has been located in Antwerp since 1989 and might be the first Thai restaurant in our city! When eating inside, I like sitting upstairs at the window, and when the sun shines, of course, I prefer the terrace. The beautiful cutlery and the napkins folded into lotus flowers make it all complete.
Next to the bar, in the entrance hall, you can see a certificate of the Thai Select Premium Label. There are only 146 other Thai restaurants over the world who have received this certificate: definitely something to be proud of! Something good to know: they don’t use ‘MSG’ – a flavour enhancer which can be rather unhealthy!
I like ordering some dishes to share, depending on the company. My two all-time favourites are Thod Man Pla – little fish pies with a fresh cucumber sauce – and Som Tam – spice papaya salad with chili, garlic and chopped vegetables.
If you, like me, think that it is not important to serve wine from a bottle, order a carafe instead: same quantity, same quality, lower cost!
