I have a daughter of 4 years old, so I know that visiting all the cool places is not easy when traveling with kids. The Sint-Andriesplaats is one of the exceptions where a good vibe does match with having children. In fact, it is maybe weird to not have kids around here! Our house is about 100 meters away from this place and whenever the sun comes out, the Sint-Andriesplaats is our daughter’s playground.
Let me start by saying that the Sint-Andries quarter, apart from its long and interesting history, has the village-vibe in the city centre. After work, the local parents pick up their kids from school by (cargo) bike and come to the Sint-Andriesplaats. Depending on the weather, the kids climb, run or play basketball while their parents drink an elderberry tea or some other bio-inspired drink. Usually, ‘t Missverstand is the bar they go. From here, it’s easy to keep an eye on them.
Certainly in the summer, you’ll have to fight for a spot in the sun. Don’t be ashamed to claim your spot right next to a stranger. It’s very common to share tables and be social.
