The ‘Stadsfeestzaal’ used to be the old party hall of the city where even the Belgian king was welcomed on special occasions. A few years ago, this incredible place was converted to a shopping center with of more than 20.500 m² right in the middle of the main shopping district. It also makes a beautiful connection between the chique and expensive shopping part of the city (Hopland and Schuttershofstraat) and the main shopping street ‘Meir’.
You will find a few cool brands (like O’neill ) and unique or special shops (like the international magazine store) under one roof and you can have a break or a drink in a unique setting. I prefer my break and lunch on the first floor (in ‘La Palace’) to overlook the shopping people on the ground floor. From time to time, there are temporarily art exhibitions on the first floor as well.
Don’t forget to check out the little details in the architecture where modern ideas (candles-effect in the wall for example) are integrated with respect for the history of the building.
