Aiolou is my favorite pedestrian area of the city. Its architecture reminds me of New York and it joins the “Tower of Winds” with Omonoia Square. One more reason I like Aiolou is that one of my favorite restaurant is located there – Mama Roux!
Its industrial design meets exotic food, while nice smooth music is playing in the background. Mama Roux is open from early in the morning for your coffee until late at night for your dinner.
The food that is served is ethnic, from Korean specialties to Japanese noodles and American burgers. But for me the tastiest food you have to try is called “moutabal”. It is a recipe from Syria – melted, smoked eggplants with minced meat and almonds. It also comes without meat as a vegan option.
Mama Roux really is vegetarian-friendly. You can choose among its different salads. The one I prefer is “Fatous” that is served with a very special cheese also from Syria.
After your lunch do not miss a taste of their delicious sweets especially the “creme brulee”. Mama Roux is also famous for the brunch it serves from Monday to Saturday, 09:30 – 12:30.
Exoticism and urban feeling at the same time!
