To be honest I don’t think that any tourist has gone this far or to this area in Athens in general. The area is called Patisia (Ano Patisia is the station to get off the train) and back in the 1930s it used to be the area where the Athenians would build their holiday “mansions”. Now it is an area of Athens more or less like the rest of it but its history is recognizable here and there through the old houses that have survived throughout the years.
Roukounas is a place to drink Greek beer, tsipouro and ouzo and have your delicious meze. The two owners are young and have recently opened this place after finishing their studies and -no wonder- could not find a job. They cook everything themselves and my all time favourite are the potatoes with salt and rosemary. Yummie!
A very small cozy place in a very interesting area!
