For all of us living in the centre of Athens, Thission & Monastiraki have always been places for long walks and even longer coffee-breaks. Somewhere there, hidden in a small alley, if you look really closely you will find a really small wooden door that is the entrance to The Art Foundation (called TAF) that is a co-working space for artists and architects but also works as a cafe-bar, all day long and as a modern art exhibition space.
Past the small wooden door, a big space filled with tables and chairs, welcomes you and makes you feel like you went missing into some wormhole, far away from the noisy streets and stress of the flea market! I have been there quite often myself, enjoying a quick coffee or a long beer or two… Make sure you get there as early as possible to get some time to enjoy the place, before the noisy Athenians invade it!
I prefer TAF in the summer, especially when the noise outside makes you just want to go and hide somewhere, anywhere! Another tip for those of you that like shopping, is to wander in the adjacent streets, filled with clothes shops and many many antiquities shops as well!
Use TAF as your pit stop before going back home! They recently added quite a large variety of beers to choose from, so if you like your hidden places from the crowd as much as your cold beer, this is the place to be!
