"Upupa Epops" Athens: one of the newest entries in our rapidly growing brunch scene. But it's great to visit any time of day - and the decor's exceptional!

Upupa Epops is one of the newest entries in the rapidly growing brunch scene of Athens. It became famous very quickly because of its exceptional architecture, lovely yard and sophisticated décor. However, the reason I like it and have been there twice already is the quality of food, drinks and coffee at reasonable prices.

You can visit this spot almost any time of the day: during the day for coffee, brunch or lunch, and at night for great dinner and fine drinking. Their burgers, salads, pancakes, omelettes and desserts make a small but satisfying menu for any time of the day.

The coffee is an exceptional blend and the baristas obviously know what they’re doing. The spirits and cocktails list is quite long. I haven’t tried the cocktails yet but there’s a growing reputation about them. So, I’m looking forward to going there again and trying cocktails or a premium rum from their long long list!

Rafiki – New Age kafeneio

"Rafiki" in Athens offers the experience of a new age kafeneio: few but very well cooked dishes of mezedes with local ingredients. Check their music nights

The Oldest Apartment Building? – Thirst for life

I can't decide what I like more about this spot - the presence of Athens' oldest apartment building or the decrepit Coca Cola ad next to it?

"Stenopos Kollytos" used to be a central district in Ancient Athens. Today, this conspicuous Roman mosaic is one of the few surviving traces of it.

Shedia – Human is the answer

Shedia is heavily focused on sustainability and inclusivity: pets have their own menu, the menu is also offered in Braille, and the oil used is produced by the Niarchos park trees and then recycled.

O Lefteris – Dad-approved souvlaki

"O Lefteris" in Athens makes souvlaki the way our fathers & grandfathers like them best: no gyros, no tzatziki, no fries; just meat, pita, tomato & onion.
